How To Prepare For The Science Section Of TEAS 7?

TEAS is changing, and this might be making you anxious. However, anxiety is primarily due to the unknown, i.e., lack of information. Once you understand something, it is easier to handle and overcome. Therefore, we aim to ensure you know everything about TEAS 7 through our series of articles.

Therefore, in this article, we will go over the science section of the TEAS 7 Exam. We will discuss the changes since the previous version, the topics you need to study, the types of questions to expect, and the best way to learn.

Why are you being tested on science?

Understanding why you do something is crucial; the same goes for studying.

The main goal of the science section of TEAS is to determine your scientific knowledge and competency for learning to become a nurse. You already know that nursing requires understanding various medical facts and performing multiple patient care procedures. To understand this complex information, you need to have your basics clear.

You should therefore have a good understanding of science to score well on the TEAS exam and become a good nurse.

What’s new in the science section of TEAS 7?

Compared with TEAS 6, this section has changed most in the TEAS 7 exam. In TEAS 6, the science section had 53 questions divided between 3 sub-sections, but now it has only 50 questions across 4 sub-sections. Of these 50 questions, 6 will be unscored, and 44 will be scored.

The human anatomy and physiology and scientific reasoning sub-section of TEAS 7 remain consistent with TEAS 6. But, the life and physical sciences sub-section of TEAS 6 has been split into the biology and chemistry sub-sections in TEAS 7.

If you take the pen and paper version of the test, you will solve multiple-choice questions. But if you are taking the computerized version of the test, then you will face some alternate types of questions. To learn more about alternate kinds of questions, you may refer to our article on the differences between TEAS 6 and TEAS 7

How to prepare for the science section of TEAS 7?

The topics in the science section of TEAS are pretty complex. You will be expected to study, understand and memorize a large amount of information and apply it with sound reasoning. Therefore, doing well in this section can be challenging without a proper study plan. But worry not! We are here to make it super easy for you with these tips:

  1. Don’t try to do everything at once: With many topics to cover, it can be pretty tempting to try to cover everything at once. But that is a bad idea as it may lead you to overwhelm yourself and burn out.
  2. A good idea would be to pick an exam date that will allow you to cover all the exam topics with enough time for revision without burning yourself out.
  3. Dig Deep: Very rarely will you encounter a surface-level understanding question in the TEAS 7 exam. The exam challenges your deep understanding of the subject and ability to apply the knowledge practically. Hence, while studying, you must dig deep into each topic and understand it fully.
  4. Read Carefully: Due to the strict time limit, it is very tempting to skim the question and answer ASAP! But this may lead to errors in reading or understanding the question and cause you to answer incorrectly. So while studying, take a lot of practice tests and build a habit of reading the questions and all the options carefully before answering.
  5. Familiarize yourself with the test format: Especially now that TEAS 7 has alternative types of questions, you must familiarize yourself with them. You can do this by taking practice tests designed explicitly for TEAS 7. Practice testing will not only help you familiarize yourself with these questions but also will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses in the subject.

While studying, you now know what to do. But do you know how to learn efficiently? Are your current study methods actually good? And if not, which are the scientifically effective study techniques? If you wanna know about all this, you may refer to our article about studying in a scientifically effective way.
